about

Join the British Army (trad. English) The lyrics of this song address the concerns of a young man who is reconsidering his decision to volunteer for the British Army. From verse to verse, elaborations are made, explaining the young man's regrets. This song has circulated both inside and outside the army since Victorian times. Singers would insert at appropriate points the names of those officials they disliked. The best version to this day was sung by the great Luke Kelly in the 1960s.
